Application Eligibility and Process

This application should only be completed by those who have started their PhD program in summer 2026 or fall 2026 or have applied or been admitted to a doctoral program at S&T for spring 2027, summer 2027, or fall 2027.

Students who have applied for the 2026 Award and were not selected are NOT eligible to apply. 

Students who submit their Ph.D. application, including all required materials, and the Kummer I&E Fellowship application, by the application deadline will then be reviewed by the Kummer I&E Doctoral Fellows Program Selection Committee for final review and awarding of the fellowship. Semester Application Deadlines

The Award Cycle for Fall 2027 application deadline is January 5, 2027. KDF Application.

  • Academic Departments Review and Rank: January 6th-January 30th, 2027
  • Selection Committee Review: February 1st -15th, 2027
  • Finalist Student Interviews: February 22nd-26th, 2027
  • Award Announcements: March 3, 2027
  • Acceptance Deadline: April 15, 2027
