Out of State Groundbreaker Scholarship

The Out-of-State Groundbreaker Scholarship is a prestigious merit-based award for high-achieving students from outside Missouri. This scholarship is automatically awarded at the time of admission—no separate application required!

Fall 2026 scholarship packages range from $16,000 to $26,000 and are determined using a combination of standardized test scores and GPA. (Test optional students will also be considered in a holistic review of your application.) 

Eligibility

  • All scholarship amounts listed above are for incoming freshman students starting fall 2026 at Missouri S&T and is only available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents from outside the state of Missouri who are working on their first bachelors degree.
  • Most entering freshmen merit-based awards require the student to be continuously enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours at Missouri S&T and maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA for renewal. They are available for up to 8 semesters.
  • A first-time college freshman is defined as a student who enrolls at Missouri S&T during the first regular academic semester (fall or spring) after high school graduation.
  • Out-of-state residents who become Missouri residents will be assessed in-state tuition and forfeit the out-of-state merit scholarships.
  • This scholarship cannot be combined with the National Merit Semifinalist Scholarship or the Distinguished Scholars Award.
